How a meteoroid becomes a meteorite.

A meteorite is a piece of rock or that has fallen to the earth’s surface from outer space as a meteor from a larger mass known as an asteroid.

Meteorites have been around since the dawn of time and they continue to fall to earth to this very present day. But to give a further understanding into how an object from space becomes a meteorite, here is a short enlightening fact. The end product, which is a meteorite starts out as a meteoroid. This is a piece of interplanetary matter that is smaller than a kilometre and frequently millimetres in size. This object then passes through our atmosphere burning up in a flash of light (which is referred to as a meteor). After surviving the trip through our atmosphere and reaching the earth it is then called a meteorite.
